Third graders loved dissecting fresh sheep's eyes as part of their science unit on vision, light and optics. The amazing part is that four veterinarians led the lab, including distinguished guests Dr. Sara Thomasy, veterinary ophthalmologist and scientist from UC Davis as well as Dr. Nick Faber, veterinary ophthalmologist at Animal Vision Center in Sacramento. Both guests are Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology and brought their expertise as students identified all parts of the eye including cornea, optic nerve and lens. ​

Seventh grade's accelerated science leaves the hardest unit for last: organic chemistry! Students built 3-D models of the nine basic types of hydrocarbons, then labeled the molecular structures on paper. ​For their final test they had to identify each compound from memory. Whew, no end-of-school wimps here! ​

Delicious smells wafted from Spanish class as ninth graders lunched on home-made Spanish dishes and viewed the cooking videos they narrated and filmed (in Spanish!). Dishes included pollo saltado (from Peru), pinchos morunos (pork skewers), patatas bravas (fried potatoes) and desserts sopaipilla and flan among others.​

Top notch work in fourth grade art class! It was a multi-day effort to collect oak galls from around campus, grind them and reconstitute them into ink, and practice calligraphy using real turkey feather quills. After studying and memorizing the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, students wrote the Preamble using their hand-made ink and freshly cut quills. ​
