The highlight of the 4th-grade trip to the Capitol? Definitely seeing Assemblymembers tossing a football on the floor while waiting for a quorum to form! It was such a great reminder for the kids that our leaders are real people, too.
Huge thanks to Turner Construction Company for the surprise treats and the behind-the-scenes look at the Capitol Annex renovation. We saw firsthand how 21st-century tech is being used to keep our 19th-century history safe for the future.
The kids also loved petting the California Highway Patrol horses and meeting the bike medics who keep the grounds safe for everyone to assemble peacefully.
Beyond the fun, it was incredible to see the textbook come to life. Learning the actual "checks and balances" of how a bill becomes a law made the history feel very present. The perfect finale was meeting Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry in person and hearing our class officially welcomed during the Assembly session. A moment none of us will forget!
