Eligibility, Tryouts for GVVC

Eligibility to join GVVC:  GVVC is a private club that is a ministry of Grace Valley Christian Center.  Eligibility to participate is prioritized, and limited to the number of coaches and gym time available.

For those who meet the NCVA-defined age requirements, eligibility to participate in GVVC is prioritized as follows:

1.    Children of members of Grace Valley Christian Center (GVCC)
2.    Students of Grace Valley Christian Academy
3.    Children of regular attendees of GVCC (minimum three months).  “Regular” here means attending both morning and evening Sunday services, as well as Wednesday night bible study, over 90% of the time.
4.    Residents of Davis, Dixon, Winters, or Woodland
5.    All other

Each priority level is not considered for eligibility until all interested players meeting the higher priority levels have a chance to join the club’s teams.  We move downward to the next priority level ONLY if we consider there to be room on the team.  Generally, we do not want to see the number of players on a team to exceed 12-13 players, and 9-10 is considered optimal.  A team is considered “full” if there are at least 10 on the team.  If there are 10-12 players, a particular team’s coach, with agreement from the Club Director, may decide to add another player, or may decide that the team is closed for this season.

Tryouts:  it has been the policy of GVVC not to “cut” any interested player from the team.  The only “tryout” for an interested player consists of interviews with the players and their parents, to assess their clear interest in participation with, and support of, the volleyball club. 

If your daughter would like to join Grace Valley VB Club for the 2007 season, she (or a parent) should get in touch with one of the coaches, or send an email to gracevalleyvb@aol.com  .  If she does not fit the first three priority levels, she should send a letter (no more than one page) describing herself and why she would like to join our volleyball club.  Please send this letter as an email attachment to the address noted above.   To be considered for the 2007 season, please email the letter by 12-01-2006.  We will try to reply quickly, so that if your daughter is not accepted (because the teams are full, or any other reason), she will still have time to try out with another club.  We cannot guarantee, however, that we will reply before other clubs’ tryouts.

Practices:  Generally each team practices twice a week, depending on gym availability and the tournament schedule.  Practices are at the Grace Valley Christian Academy gym, unless otherwise noted.

League:  we will play in Saturday NCVA Area League and Non League tournaments.  

We do not plan, at this time, to participate in the Area League championships, as that is a two day tournament which would involve playing on a Sunday.
